THE AGE OF AQUARIA
Hey Aquaria how's it going?
Bonjour! Life's been amazing lately. Enjoying every moment and living my dreams.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself, Who is Aquaria?
Aquaria is undoubtedly one of the hardest working queens in New York City. She's a show-stopping personality that always keeps you on the edge of your seat whenever she's turning a look for an event or performing at a party.
What does being a NYC queen mean to you? How has it molded you?
As highly as NYC queens think of themselves, we truly do have something to be proud of. Working in this incredible city is more unique than anywhere else. I think we have the ability and a greater ease to work full time like I do, but the stress that comes with such commitments is what makes us strong competitors and forces to be reckoned with. Some weekends I can find myself working two gigs on a Friday until 4AM, two gigs on Saturday until 4, and then going straight into a brunch show on Sunday and ending my marathon with another party until 3AM. Thankfully this is not every weekend but this is the type of schedule I have to be used to working in this incredible city.
We've been told you're close to one of our previous cover girls,... Bob the Drag Queen. Can you tell us a bout your relationship to Bob?
Haha! Well I wouldn't say we were super close like some people may be but we definitely get along very well and enjoy each others talents. I met him a couple years ago when I competed in his monthly competition LookQueen. From then, we'd work together on occasion every so often. This past summer, I won the title of Miss LookQueen by beating out the other monthly winners of the competition. He's always been very welcoming to new talent and I think that's something important for a well-respected queen to be.
We've seen pictures on your Instagram of you stood in an oversized red Marc Jacobs bag, what was going on there? Can we expect to see more of you and this iconic brand?
I have had the pleasure of working a couple of events for Marc Jacobs through the referral of New York City's party diva, Ladyfag. She has many friends and clients in fashion so she is always the first person to try to help me find my way into working those events. The event was for the launch of Marc's resort line, I believe, and my role was basically to stand with my sister Kyle Farmery and greet everyone at the door with a huge personality and confetti! I love working events like this because I get to meet so many incredible people and hopefully there will be plenty more in the future!
You've also worked with BCALLA is that right? How was that?
Aw! I love BCALLA! I was originally introduced to him at Frankie Sharp's iconic (RIP) party Westgay, where he premiered a fashion-porn film called "Colby Does New York" starring Colby Keller and the hunks of Cockyboys.... needles to say I was hooked from day one! He has worked with amazing artists like Lady Gaga and has had his work featured in countless publications. He is always so fun to work with and understands how my brain works and how we can collaborate to make something I love but also something that he loves as well. It is always a pleasure to get zipped into one of his fantasies!
You've had the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the biggest club kids in NYC and international, Amanda Lepore being one of the most iconic. At such a young age it must feel great to be accepted into the scene like you have, and to be so respected and accomplished as you are?
It's been really nice, honestly, to have the support of such legends as Susanne Bartsch and Amanda Lepore. These icons trust my talents and me as a human and have stuck their necks out for me on multiple occasions and I couldn't be more appreciative of the opportunities and experiences we share. Amanda has always been so welcoming to me and our friendship is one of the most special bonds I have in New York City. Amanda isthe nicest person I have ever met and truly is an example of how to treat people while still maintaining her hyper-glamour aesthetic. I think these icons see something in me and their support is the paramount reason for how I've been able to gain traction and success in such a vicious city.
You recently came to England to experience the scene here, how was that? Who did you get to party with? And will we be seeing you again?
London was incredible!! I could have never asked for a better time. I have never officially had a real vacation since I moved to NYC so it was well deserved. My sisters Sussi and Harry Charlesworth both moved to London at the end of 2016 so it was only time until I traveled to visit them. Because I get the itches if I don't perform/work though, I simply had to book a couple gigs while I was there. I performed at Sussi and Harry's party "The Abyss," which was a basement dance party with all of our amazing friends. I started my trip off performing at WUT?CLUB and I also had the pleasure of partying with Jodie Harsh all week and performing at her weekly Dollar Baby where I dropped from stripper pole from the ceiling into a full split. Every second, even the "boring" moments, were so much fun and I cannot wait to hopefully be back in the UK soon!
What's next for Aquaria?
There's tons of fun things in store! All of my wonderful friends and followers have convinced me to come to LA for DragCon this year so I'll be there at the end of April. I'm also happy to announce that in the beginning of May I will have exclusive merch for sale online through Hot Topic and I am also opening an online store through DragQueenMerch.com for other designs!
